    Andrew Kennedy was born in Ashington, and studied at King's College, Cambridge and the Royal College of Music in London.  He was a member of the Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden where he performed many solo principal roles.

    Andrew has won numerous prizes and awards including the 2005 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Rosenblatt Recital Prize.  He is a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award winner and won the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artists' Award in 2006.  He was also a member of Radio 3's New Generation Artists Scheme.

    Operatic roles include Tamino The Magic Flute for English National Opera, Flute A Midsummer Night's Dream for the Royal Opera House, Jaquino Fidelio for Glyndebourne Festival, Ferrando Cosi fan tutte for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Nemorino L'elisir d'amore for Opera North and Tom Rakewell The Rake's Progress, La Monnaie and Opéra de Lyon, recently released on DVD. 

    Concert engagements include Jaquino Fidelio and Francesco Benvenuto Cellini and Mozart Requiem for the LSO/Sir Colin Davis all recorded for the LSO Live CD label, Novice Billy Budd, the LSO/Daniel Harding (recorded for CD release by EMI/Virgin Classics), Junger Seeman and Hirt Tristan und Isolde and the Shepherd Oedipus Rex for the Edinburgh International Festival, Mozart Requiem and Young Man in Korngold's Das Wunder der Heliane with the LPO/Jurowski, Mozart Mass in C Minor with the Hallé Orchestra/Elder and Berlioz Grande Messe de Morts with the LSO/Tortelier and at the Royal Albert Hall with the RPO. 

    Recent orchestral performances of Britten include Nocturne with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, (also released with BBC Music Magazine), Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with the CBSO, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Les Illuminations with the Scottish Ensemble at the Edinburgh International Festival.  Andrew sang Elgar Spirit of England at the 2007 Last Night of the BBC Proms and has also recorded it on CD with Susan Gritton and the BBC Syphony Orchestra/David Lloyd Jones.

    Equally passionate about song repertoire, Andrew gives numerous recitals around Europe and the UK, recently appearing at the Wigmore Hall with Julius Drake, at LSO St Luke's with Stephen Osborne, at the Leeds Lieder Festival with Iain Burnside and at Cadogan Hall for the 2007 BBC Proms with the Nash Ensemble and Edward Gardner. Other performances include the opening recital for the 2005/6 Concertgebouw recital series in Amsterdam with Roger Vignoles.

    Andrew's fast growing discography includes two solo discs (Vaughan Williams and Gurney with the Dante Quartet and a disc of Peter Warlock songs), with a further three solo discs to be released later in 2008 (Strauss Songs with Roger Vignoles, Liszt songs with Iain Burnside and a disc of William Dennis Browne, Gurney and Eugene Goosens with Julius Drake).

    Future plans include Vere Billy Budd for Houston Grand Opera, Zadok Solomon Bregenz Festival, Tito La Clemenza di Tito for Opera de Lyon, and Tom Rakewell The Rake's Progress at Stresa Music Festival and at La Scala, Milan as well as appearances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic, RLPO, LPO and at the BBC Proms and Mostly Mozart Festival.
