Leonidas Kavakos returns to the BBC Proms with the London Symphony Orchestra and Valery Gergiev on 23 August. This eagerly anticipated Prom will see Kavakos performing Dutilleux’s Violin Concerto, L'arbre des songes, a concerto Kavakos and Gergiev have performed together previously. The last occasion on which Kavakos played this work was in May, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel:
"the branches of “L’arbre” [on] Thursday night seemed to reach for the realm of twinkling stars."
Los Angeles Times, May 2011
Leonidas Kavakos and Valery Gergiev have a very strong and fruitful partnership, working frequently together. In March, Kavakos appeared with the LSO and Gergiev in a memorable performance of Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No.1. The reviews of this last concert are testament to this unique and dynamic partnership:
"Played with the music coursing through his entire body, and at one with the body of the orchestra, Kavakos’s performance led to a rapid and spontaneous standing ovation, with the LSO’s leader shaking his head in admiring disbelief.”
The Times, March 2011
