Eric Cutler's uniquely virtuosic voice has been celebrated in the world's leading opera houses. He has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, New York; the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich; the Salzburg Festival; the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Venice's Teatro la Fenice; the Lyric Opera of Chicago; Brussels' Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie; the Teatro dell'Opera, Rome; the Canadian Opera Company; Houston Grand Opera; Vlaamse Opera; Opera Australia; the Grand Théâtre de Genève; the Glyndebourne Festival; Paris Opera; Santa Fe Opera; and many others. He also collaborates regularly with leading orchestras in the USA and Europe.

Cutler specialises in the technically challenging French and Italian repertoire of the nineteenth century. Recent highlights include Leicester Maria Stuarda (Houston Grand Opera), the title role of Faust (Greek National Opera), and Raoul de Nangis Les Huguenots (new production at La Monnaie, directed by Olivier Py and conducted by Marc Minkowski). Other French repertoire includes Gounod's Roméo et Juliette (Teatro la Fenice, Opera Australia), Iopas Les Troyens (Paris Opera, Valencia under Valery Gergiev including a DVD, Boston Symphony Orchestra under James Levine), Nadir Les pêcheurs de perles (Lyric Opera of Chicago), the title role of La Damnation de Faust (Vlaamse Opera), Nicias Thaïs (Edinburgh Festival under Sir Andrew Davis) and Leopold La Juive (Metropolitan Opera new production). His roles in Italian have included the Duke Rigoletto (La Fenice, Houston Grand Opera), Alfredo La traviata (Bayerische Staatsoper), Ernesto Don Pasquale (Royal Opera House), Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor (Opera Australia), the supremely challenging Arturo I Puritani (Metropolitan Opera opposite Anna Netrebko including DVD), and Amenophis Moïse et Pharaon (at both the Salzburg Festival and the Teatro dell'Opera, Rome under Riccardo Muti).

Other recent highlights include a new production of Szymanowski's Król Roger directed by Kristoph Warlikowski and conducted by Kazushi Ono; the Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier and Andres Wozzeck (both at the Metropolitan Opera); Tamino Die Zauberflöte (Glyndebourne, Edinburgh Festival under Claudio Abbado, Metropolitan Opera); Belmonte Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Houston Grand Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid); Ferrando Così fan tutte (Lyric Opera of Chicago under Sir Andrew Davis); and Don Ottavio Don Giovanni (Santa Fe Opera under Alan Gilbert).

Highlights of the 2012/13 season include a return to the Metropolitan Opera to sing Iopas Les Troyens in a much-anticipated new production by Francesca Zambello; Leicester Maria Stuarda (Staatsoper Unter den Linden); and Le Chevalier des Grieux Manon Lescaut with the Philharmonie Luxembourg.

Recent concert engagements include Rossini's Stabat Mater (Boston Symphony Orchestra under Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos), Berlioz’s Requiem (Los Angeles Philharmonic under Esa-Pekka Salonen), Mozart's Mass in C Minor and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (both BBC Proms), and Steuermann Der fliegende Holländer (San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas).

Cutler is a native of Adel, Iowa and an alumnus of Luther College and the Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artists Development Programme. He is the winner of the 2005 Richard Tucker Award, as well as earlier Study and Career Grants from the Tucker Foundation. He also won the Martin E. Segal Award from Lincoln Center and the ARIA Award. He currently lives in Germany with his wife and son.
