Richard Goode has been hailed for music-making of tremendous emotional power, depth and expressiveness, and has been acknowledged worldwide as one of today's leading interpreters of Beethoven.
In regular performances with many of the world's most important orchestras, recitals in the world's musical capitals, and acclaimed recordings, he has won a large and devoted following.
A native of New York, Goode studied with Nadia Reisenberg and Rudolf Serkin. His first public traversal of the complete cycle of Beethoven sonatas at New York's 92nd Street Y in 1987-88 was hailed by the New York Times as 'among the season's most important and memorable events' and he subsequently performed this landmark cycle in London in 1994-95, an event for which he is still remembered. More recently, Goode undertook a major residency at New York's Carnegie Hall throughout the 2005/6 season, entitled Perspectives, and appears regularly at the BBC Proms and at the Edinburgh International Festival where he was Artist in Residence in 2004 and 2006.
During the 2007/8 season Goode is Associate Artist at the Southbank Centre, performing a series of six events: a solo recital, duo concerts with Dawn Upshaw and with pianist Jonathan Biss, a lecture recital, a masterclass and performing Beethoven's 3rd Piano Concerto with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Elsewhere he performs with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orkest, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and the San Francisco Symphony. In recital Goode performs this season at the Berlin Philharmonie, Théâtre des Champs Elysées Paris, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bath Mozartfest, Klavierfest am Ruhr and in Milan and Rome.
An exclusive Nonesuch recording artist, Goode has made more than two dozen recordings over the years ranging from solo and chamber works to concerti and lieder. His most recent recording of Mozart sonatas has received much critical acclaim. He is co-Artistic Director with Mitsuko Uchida of the Marlboro Music School and Festival in Vermont.
