Paul McCreesh makes his debut with the St Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota, in four concerts across the region (26 to 29 January).
McCreesh’s programme includes Brahms’s Serenade No.1, one of the composer's most classical works written two decades before his first symphony, and Britten’s Serenade for which he is joined by regular collaborator Robert Murray.
In October McCreesh returned to the Spanish National Orchestra and Choir for performances of Berlioz’s Orphée et Euridice, and in November he made his debut with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon conducting two performances of Haydn’s The Seasons with his own new English translation of the text. The concerts in Lisbon were a big success, with an immediate re-invitation promised, and McCreesh also looks forward to returning to Madrid for an orchestral programme in the coming seasons.
With his Gabrieli Consort, McCreesh conducted Elijah at the Mendelssohn Fest in Leipzig in September, which received rave reviews, recognising McCreesh as “one of the few great names of the early music world to be a skilled conductor.” And his performance of The Seasons at London’s Barbican Centre in January received 4-star reviews in both The Guardian and Telegraph.
