Iain Paterson will return to the Metropolitan Opera for the first time since his debut to sing the role of Gunther in Wagner’s Götterdämmerung in January, part of the Met’s new production, by Robert Lépage, of the complete Ring Cycle. The starry cast includes renowned Wagnerian Deborah Voigt as Brünnhilde, Waltraude Meier as Waltraute and Fabio Luisi conducting. The opera opens on the 27 January 2012, with a further five performances after that running until February 11.
Iain Paterson performs in New York after a busy autumn with performances of Figaro The Marriage of Figaro for English National Opera and concerts with the LA Philharmonic, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. After New York, he returns to the US to perform Beethoven Symphony No.9 with the Cleveland Orchestra, sings Fasolt Das Rheingold for the Berlin Staatsoper, and then returns to the Met for further performances of Gunther with a stop in Liverpool over Easter for Bach St Matthew Passion with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. Iain will finish the 2011/12 season singing Gunther Götterdämmerung in Munich for the Bayerische Staatsoper.
