Following his recent success as Nemorino in The Elixir of Love and Don Ottavio Don Giovanni, Ben Johnson will make his role debut as Alfredo in the English National Opera’s production of La traviata in February. The production is directed by acclaimed theatre director Peter Konwitschny and conducted by Michael Hofstetter.
“Johnson's Ottavio is among the most beautifully sung of recent years”.
Later this season, Johnson appears with the Residentie Orkest, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He will also join veteran pianist Graham Johnson for a recital at the Wigmore Hall and at the Klavierfestival Ruhr.
Internationally-acclaimed baritone Anthony Michaels-Moore also stars in the ENO’s new production of La traviata singing the role of Alfredo's father, Giorgio Germont.
Michaels-Moore recently sang a successful production of La forza del destino at Oper Köln. His other engagements later this season include Falstaff in South Korea and Curlew River in Rome.
“With his powerful, virile voice... [Anthony Michaels-Moore] gave a vivid portrayal of the vengeful Don Carlo.”
