As Artistic Director of the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Marek Janowski conducts Parsifal at the Berlin Philharmonie on Friday 8 April. This is part of the Wagner Cycle that Janowski is presenting in Berlin between November 2010 and May 2013. Parsifal will be sung by German tenor Christian Elsner and the rest of the cast includes Michelle DeYoung as Kundry, Evgeny Nikitin as Amfortas, and Franz-Josef Selig as Gurnemanz.
Janowski and the RSB Berlin will be joined by a top international cast for the rest of this series too, including Matti Salminen, Nina Stemme, Albert Dohmen, Ricarda Merbeth, Robert Dean Smith and Stephen Gould. The ten concert performances of Wagner’s works, which began with Der Fliegende Holländer, also include Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, Tannhäuser and a performance of the complete opera tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen during the 2012/13 season, marking the highpoint of the series in honour of Richard Wagner’s 200th birthday.
