Midori has been elected to the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, considered to be one of the most prestigious honorary societies worldwide.
The award recognises Midori’s work as both a musician and as a leading figure in community engagement and education work. She is joined in receiving this award by such figures as Hillary Clinton, Jeffrey Bezos, Paul McCartney and Christopher Wheeldon.
“Election to the Academy is both an honor for extraordinary accomplishment and a call to serve,” said Academy President Leslie C. Berlowitz. “We look forward to drawing on the knowledge and expertise of these distinguished men and women to advance solutions to the pressing policy challenges of the day.”
A full list of the newly elected Fellows can be found here.
The class will be inducted at a ceremony on October 6 2012, at the Academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
