Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and the Pavel Haas Quartet have been shortlisted for this year’s Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, recognising outstanding achievement in 2011.
The Pavel Haas Quartet, current Artists in Residence at Glasgow Royal Concert Halls, have been shortlisted for the 'Ensemble' award. This marks a continuation of the quartet's great success in recent years, including their ‘Recording of the Year’ win at the 2011 Gramophone Awards. Previous winners of the Ensemble award include London Sinfonietta and the Aurora Orchestra.
Sir Peter Maxwell Davies's opera Kommilitonen!, a story of student protest in the 20th century, has been shortlisted for the 'Opera and Music Theatre' award. The work was co-commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music and Juilliard School, and has received critical acclaim since its US premiere in November of last year.
Winners for the RPS Music Awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on the evening of Tuesday 8 May.
BBC Radio 3 will broadcast a special RPS Music Awards broadcast on Sunday 13 May at 2pm.
