On 9 June 2012, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’s Symphony No.9 will receive its world premiere from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

This landmark event in the history of British music will take place in a sold-out concert also featuring Britten’s National Anthem and Beethoven Symphony No.9.

Maxwell Davies has dedicated his ninth symphony to Her Majesty The Queen on the event of her Diamond Jubilee, and the work will receive a further performance from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Petrenko at this year’s BBC Proms, on 23 August.
