After appearing for many years as soloist with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, Leonidas Kavakos will make his conducting debut with the orchestra in June. In three performances on June 4, 6 and 7, Kavakos will conduct and play Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and then conduct the fifth symphony. He will then appear with the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchestra with his compatriot, Constantinos Carydis, for performances of the Sibelius Violin Concerto on June 9 and 10.

Kavakos will then take Sibelius to the White Nights Festival and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre. Together with Valery Gergiev, the festival’s creator, Kavakos will perform the Sibelius concerto as well as Shostakovich Violin Concerto No.1 on consecutive nights. Kavakos will finish the season in Paris with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and Myung-Whun Chung, in a performance in the Salle Pleyel on June 24 of Brahms’ Violin Concerto.
