Eri Nakamura will sing the part of Giulietta in two performances of I Capuleti e I Montecchi at Bayerische Staatsoper on 23 and 26 May, replacing Anna Netrebko.
This is the second time she has replaced Netrebko at short notice. In 2009, whilst still a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programme at the Royal Opera House, Nakamura stepped into the same role at Covent Garden, a performance received with great critical and public acclaim.
She later reprised the role at Bayerische Staatsoper where she received unanimous praise: “Eri Nakamura was the star of the show. Not only did she perform Bellini’s long cantilenas with effortless perfection, but she also showed once again what a good performance of Italian bel canto can be: not just pretty singing, but a medium for heartfelt expression and individual expressiveness,” (Neue Musikzeitung, April 2011).
Eri Nakamura is currently a member of the Bayerische Staatsoper Ensemble. Future performances include Liu (Turandot) at Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Gretel (Hansel und Gretel), Xenia (Boris Godunov) and Adina (L’elisir d’amore) in Munich, Juliette (Romeo et Juliette) in Santiago plus scheduled appearances with Tokyo Philarmonic and London Philharmonic orchestras, and the Estonian National Orchestra.
