Following performances at Wigmore Hall earlier this month, Joyce DiDonato continues her recital tour of Europe, performing a Venice-inspired programme with French pianist David Zobel.

DiDonato will sing music by Vivaldi, Faure and Rossini, amongst others, in four cities: at the Berliner Philharmoniker (June 13), Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele, Schwetzingen (June 15), Théatre des Champs Elysées, Paris (June 26) and Prinzregententheater, Munich (July 14).

"DiDonato’s judicious choice of programme plays to the strengths of her distinctive and wide-ranging mezzo. For two arias from the opera Ercole sul Termodonte by Vivaldi (Venice-born, of course), her silvery soprano register, clear and sparkly as Venetian glass, brought finely nuanced phrasing to images of murmuring streams — vying with the play of light on water that had already been exquisitely conjured by David Zobel in his long piano prelude."
