This month saw Brett Dean take up a week-long residency, both as a composer and performer, at the Yellow Barn Festival in Vermont. The festival’s opening concert boasted an all-Dean programme in which Dean played his solo viola piece Intimate Decisions. Throughout the week, several concerts showcased various Dean chamber compositions, culminating in the finale concert on 4 August in which he played viola in his string quintet, Epitaphs.

On 30 August, Dean will be at the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, where Nina Stemme will sing the world premiere of his arrangement of Schubert’s Death and the Maiden.
