During August, Jamie Phillips will be participating as a conducting guest at the Tanglewood Music Festival with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He will then return to Salzburg where, earlier this season, he was the youngest finalist in the Nestlé and Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award. He has been invited by Ingo Metzmacher to attend and observe rehearsals for the production of Die Soldaten which Metzmacher will conduct in the festival this year.

Later in the month, on August 25, Phillips will conduct the orchestra he founded, the Birmingham Festival Orchestra, in a programme of Shostakovich Violin Concerto No.1, Humperdinck Prelude to Hansel and Gretel and Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4.

At the very end of August, as the new Music Director and Conductor of the Hallé Youth Orchestra, Jamie Phillips will hold the orchestral auditions for the forthcoming season. This marks the beginning of his two year tenure as Assistant Conductor at the Hallé Orchestra.
