Intermusica is delighted to announce that Michel van der Aa’s acclaimed opera After Life will open the Melbourne Festival with three performances in October 2012.

The three semi-staged performances will take place at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre on 11, 12 and 13 October, and will mark the opera’s Australasian premiere. It will be the opera’s third revival, following its premiere at the 2006 Holland Festival, and semi-staged performances in Amsterdam, Opéra de Lyon and the Barbican Centre, London, in 2009/10.

Original cast members Roderick Williams (Aiden), Richard Suart (Mr Walter), Helena Rasker (Bryna), Yvette Bonner (Sarah) and Margriet van Reisen (Ilana) will perform, alongside Yannick-Muriel Noah who will sing the role of Chief. The cast will be joined by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Wouter Padberg.
