Conductor Rory Macdonald and three Intermusica singers perform in the revival of Jonathan Miller’s acclaimed production of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love at English National Opera, which opens on Thursday 15 September, the first performance of ENO’s 2011/12 season.
Sarah Tynan returns to sing Adina, which she sang when the production was new, Ben Johnson makes his house and role debut singing Nemorino and Benedict Nelson returns (after successes last year in Faust and A Midsummer Night’s Dream) to sing Belcore, as the two boys vie for Adina’s affections.
All three singers have busy seasons ahead on the operatic stage: Sarah will return to Opera North to sing Cleopatra in a new production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare; Ben Johnson sings Tamino for Opera Oviedo this winter and then travels to Opéra de Bordeaux next summer to sing Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni; and Benedict Nelson will star in the title role of a new production of Britten’s Billy Budd by David Alden at ENO in the summer of 2012.
