Colin Currie’s "blistering virtuosity" (Gramophone) has been celebrated at the 2012 Gramophone Awards as the Ondine CD recording of Einojuhani Rautavaara’s percussion concerto Incantations wins the Contemporary category at this year’s ceremony.

In this world premiere recording, Currie performs alongside the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Chief Conductor John Storgårds. The concerto was written for and dedicated to Currie, and he himself composed its virtuosic cadenza.

Currie gave the world premiere performance of Incantations with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall in October 2009. Since then, he has performed the concerto at venues worldwide with, among others, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony and Houston Symphony orchestras, always to high critical acclaim.

The accolade is awarded a week before Currie travels to France to perform the concerto with the Orchestre National de Toulouse, once again under the baton of Storgårds.
