Joyce DiDonato has been nominated for a Classical BRIT Award in the ‘Female Artist of the Year’ category, following the success of her solo album Diva Divo (Virgin Classics). The record, which was awarded a Grammy this year for ‘Best Classical Vocal Solo’, comprises operatic arias of both male and female characters that tell the same story from their different perspectives, showcasing DiDonato’s multi-faceted art. She explains:

“This recital celebrates the vast and fabulous world of the mezzo-soprano. I have the privilege and unmitigated joy of playing boys and young men, as well as girls and grown women… It’s an exploration of the human palette of emotions. I wanted to find a way to show this duality on disc, while highlighting some of the composers I'm most passionate about, such as Mozart, Bellini, Berlioz, Rossini, and Massenet… I've always thought of myself as a storyteller, and with this particular disc, I can showcase that side of me as never before.”

Diva Divo is DiDonato’s third disc with EMI/Virgin Classics, with whom she is an exclusive recording artist. She was accompanied by the Orchestre de l'Opéra National de Lyon under Principal Conductor Kazushi Ono.
