The LSO and Principal Conductor, Valery Gergiev, will travel to Paris next weekend for the opening concerts in their seventh year of residency at Salle Pleyel. These two performances form part of the LSO and Gergiev’s wider exploration of the symphonies and concertos of Brahms and Szymanowski, performances of which take place in London, Paris, Edinburgh, Luxembourg and Frankfurt across the 2012-13 season. For the first concert on 6 October, the orchestra will perform Brahms and Szymanowski’s first symphonies and will be joined by violinist Janine Jansen to perform Szymanowski Violin Concerto no. 1. On October 7, Gergiev will conduct the orchestra in the composers’ second symphonies.

The orchestra and Gergiev will return to Paris in December this year, joined by Leonidas Kavakos, Denis Matsuev, Toby Spence and the London Symphony Chorus to complete the Brahms / Szymanowski cycle.
