Intermusica is delighted to announce the signing of American conductor, Joshua Weilerstein, for European management. Weilerstein was named the winner of the International Malko Competition for Young Conductors in 2009 in Copenhagen. His first-prize honours include conducting engagements over three years with such major Scandinavian orchestras as the Oslo Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Danish National Symphony, Tapiola Sinfonietta amongst others. In June 2009, in the first of this series of Malko engagements, Joshua made his debut with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra (see right).
In the US, he has conducted the Indianapolis Symphony and in February 2011, Joshua will be serving as a Dudamel Fellow, where he will both perform and act as cover conductor for multiple concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and work closely with Music Director Gustavo Dudamel.
In the summer of 2009, Joshua Weilerstein participated in the prestigious American Academy of Conducting at the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS), where he studied with David Zinman and was awarded the Robert J. After attending the AMFS in 2010, Joshua was named the winner of the Aspen Conducting Prize, which carries with it the honour of serving as the AMFS Assistant Conductor for the following summer. Currently living in Boston, Joshua is beginning his second year of post-graduate study at the New England Conservatory with Hugh Wolff.
In the forthcoming 2010/11 season, Joshua Weilerstein has concerts with the Tapiola Sinfonietta, Malmö Symphony and the Norrköping Symphony Orchestras.
