In October Intermusica is delighted to be touring Cambridge-based ensemble Britten Sinfonia to Warsaw (19th) and Tallinn (20th) for two concerts under the baton of composer/conductor James Macmillan. He has formed a close association with the orchestra, which has premiered many of his works including new opera Clemency in May 2011.

The orchestra will perform two contrasting programmes, both of which include contemporary elements. In Warsaw, Nicholas Daniel will perform MacMillan’s Oboe Concerto, which was written especially for him and premiered by the ensemble in 2010. The concert will open with Estonian composer Erki Sven Tuur’s Action Passion Illusion for strings and conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No.2.

The following day the orchestra will travel to Tallinn to open the International Contemporary Music Festival where they will give the world premiere of Tonu Korvit’s new commission for the festival Hümnid virmalistele (Hymns to the Nordic lights). The Oboe Concerto will also feature and the concert will conclude with Macmillan’s Tryst.
