Leonidas Kavakos is Artist in Residence with both the Berliner Philharmoniker and London Symphony Orchestra in 2012/13.
Kavakos’s residency with the Berliner Philharmoniker opened on 20 September with a chamber programme for which he was joined by several of the orchestra’s players. On 3 December, he returns to play a second programme, again with members of the orchestra, and will perform Bach, Gubaidulina, Dutilleux and Messiaen.
The residency continues in the new year when, Kavakos performs an all-Beethoven recital with Emanuel Ax at the Philharmonie on 23 February, and then comes to a close in April with three concerts under music director, Sir Simon Rattle, on 18 to 20 April when he will perform Dutilleux’s violin concerto, L'arbre des songes.
In the LSO Artist Portrait, during the course of his residency, Leonidas Kavakos performs seven concerts over the period a just a month. Opening on 25 November with the Berg Concerto, conducted by Symon Bychkov at the Barbican Hall, Kavakos goes on to perform a recital in the Barbican with Nikolai Lugansky (30 November), the Sibelius concerto under Sir Colin Davis (9 December), Szymanowski’s 2nd concerto with Valery Gergiev (12 and 19 December), with concerts in Paris and Luxemburg as well, and finally, will give a master-class at the Guildhall School of Music (11 December) and will take part in an Artist in Conversation event on 8 December.
