This month sees a celebration of Brett Dean’s music by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. Dean is the featured artist at the orchestra's annual Composer Festival. The orchestra, under the baton of Sakari Oramo, will give performances on November 10 and 12 of Komarov’s Fall, the Viola Concerto (with Dean as soloist), Amphitheatre and the world premiere of Fire Music, which has been commissioned by the orchestra together with the Australian Ballet and BBC Symphony Orchestra. Dean will also conduct the orchestra in his own violin concerto, The Lost Art of Letter Writing, with Jack Liebeck as soloist.
As part of the festival, Dean will also perform as violist in two chamber music concerts. On November 11, Dean will join members of the Philharmonic at the Stockholm Konserthus in a concert featuring Dean’s Recollections, Three Caprichos after Goya and Voices of Angels; on November 13 Dean will perform with members of the Uppsala Chamber Soloists and the programme will include Sculthorpe’s String Quartet No.8, Dean’s Epitaphs and Intimate Decisions, concluding with Brahms’ String Quintet No.2.
The celebration continues into the following week, when Dean will conduct the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in a performance on November 16 of Dean’s Carlo and his Pastoral Symphony.
