This month soprano Lyubov Petrova will return to Washington National Opera to sing the title role in Donizetti’s gripping Lucia di Lammermoor, conducted by Philippe Auguin. The production opens on November 10. Lyubov has recently sung the same role at Opera Lyra Ottawa – a performance that was met with great critical acclaim: "Lyubov Petrova's Lucia was the star to which the rest of the wagon was hitched. She sang beautifully all evening … her mad scene was beyond praise” (Ottawa Citizen).

This production, directed by David Alden, is a revival of his production for English National Opera, which received equally fantastic reviews: “It's a magnificent conception, which Alden stages with total command … blazingly fresh” (Rupert Christiansen, Daily Telegraph, February 2010).
