The young soprano Valentina Naforniţa will make her debut as Gilda in Verdi Rigoletto at Teatro alla Scala, Milan, on 8, 11 and 15 November. This is a La Scala production conducted by Gustavo Dudamel and with staging by Gilbert Deflo. Stefan Pop will sing the role of Il Duca di Mantova and Zeljko Lucic the title role.
Naforniţa made an impressive official debut as an ensemble member at the Wiener Staatsoper earlier in October as Marzelline in Fidelio. Die Presse described her performance as “especially exciting” and “in a light and brightly toned soprano voice with audibly explosive potential”. She also follows the company on a tour to Japan singing in productions of Le nozze di Figaro and Die Zauberflöte.
Later this season, she will also sing Musetta La bohème and Najade Ariadne auf Naxos in Vienna. She will also give a recital at the Wiener Musikverein in February, and sing Musetta with Radio Filharmonisch Orkest in April 2013.
