Fresh from his performances of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto with the New York Philharmonic in November, Leonidas Kavakos will join the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra at the beginning of this month for four performances of the same concerto in the Concertgebouw’s Great Hall, Amsterdam. Kavakos will then take Tchaikovsky to the Megaron Concert Hall, in his home town of Athens, where he will perform with Valery Gergiev and the Orchestra of the Mariinsky Theatre.
Kavakos will also make his conducting/playing debut with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra during December. Kavakos has established a strong relationship with the orchestra as a soloist, and this concert on December 17 is certain to be an exciting event. The programme opens with Bach’s Violin Concerto BWV.1052, which Kavakos follows with the Ricercare from ‘The Musical Offering’. The programme closes with Schumann’s Symphony No.2.
