Soprano Simona Mihai makes her Salzburg operatic debut in December as Adina in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore. Another Intermusica artist, Leo Hussain, conducts at the Landestheater, where he is Music Director. The production, by Nina Kühner, opens on December 5.
This is Mihai’s first major operatic engagement since she left the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in July 2010, where she covered Anna Netrebko as Manon and sang the role of Pousette at the end of last season. She also went on tour with the company to Japan in September 2010. She has already received an invitation back to Covent Garden in the 12/13 season. Other engagements in the current season include Servilia in David McVicar’s production of La Clemenza di Tito for the Aix-en-Provence Festival conducted by Sir Colin Davis. Concert performances include Mendelssohn Symphony No.2 with the Camerata Salzburg.
Leo Hussain has been Music Director of the Landestheater since 2009. He recently received rave reviews for his performances of Katya Kabanova at La Monnaie. His future engagements this season include a double bill of Ravel’s L’heure espagnole and De Falla’s La vida breve at Oper Frankfurt, and A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream for English National Opera, as well as symphonic engagements in France, the UK and Austria. Hussain’s other upcoming performances at the Landestheater include Powder Her Face and Don Giovanni.
