In December, South African bass Vuyani Mlinde will perform Beethoven’s ninth symphony on tour with John Eliot Gardiner, the London Symphony Orchestra and the Monteverdi Choir, travelling to some of Europe’s most prestigious venues.
Performances will take place at London’s Barbican Hall on December 15, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on December 16, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle on December 18, Hannover’s Stadthalle on December 19 and Munich’s Philharmonie am Gasteig on December 20. This follows performances earlier this year in September at the Beethovenhalle in Bonn as part of the Beethoven Festival.
A member of the ensemble at Oper Frankfurt, Vuyani’s engagements this season include roles in Don Giovanni, The Rake’s Progress, La Traviata and Makropoulos Case. He also performed the role of Sarastro Die Zauberflöte for Opera Oviedo in November, and has just finished recording the role of Mocenigo in Donizetti’s rarely performed Caterina Cornaro with David Parry for Opera Rara, which will be released commercially in early 2013.
