Leonidas Kavakos announces his resignation as Artistic Director of the Camerata Salzburg
Published: 01 July 2009
Leonidas Kavakos, who has been Artistic Director of the Camerata Salzburg since Sept 2007, announced his resignation from the post in early July. He has enjoyed a fruitful and highly productive relationship with the orchestra but gave as his reasons, the continuous instability in the Orchestra's management over a long period, which has made it extremely difficult to continue working.
In the light too of the musicians' recent decision to take a vote of no-confidence in the Board, a vote which has resulted in the Board deciding not to stand for re-election, the prospect of yet more serious disruption at the highest level of the institution rendered the role of Artistic Director untenable.
Leonidas Kavakos has said, however, that he will honour his forthcoming engagements with the orchestra.
