Tokyo String Quartet visit the South Bank as part of the International Chamber Music Season

The Tokyo String Quartet visited London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall last month, performing a diverse programme of Mozart's Quartet No.9 in B flat, Takemitsu's A Way A Lone (a piece commissioned for the Quartet) and Beethoven's Op.127. The Guardian commented that “Few string ensembles sound as graceful in Mozart as the Tokyo Quartet. In the opening passages of the B flat major quartet, K589, it seemed that Martin Beaver's sweet, refined violin sound carried down through the viola and into that of the cello without any noticeable change. This made for an elegant and eloquent performance; the Quartet's upcoming recording of late Mozart will be worth a listen.”
