This Saturday, 19 May, Stephen Barlow will make his directing debut at the Opera Theater of St Louis with a new production of Bizet’s Carmen, ingeniously set in the style of film noir.

Stephen Barlow's production of Ambroise Thomas' La cour de Célimène, which opened the sixtieth Wexford Festival this year, has been shortlisted in the Best Opera Production category of the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards. Stephen Barlow directs a production of Puccini’s beloved masterpiece Madama Butterfly for Mid Wales Opera this month, conducted by Nicholas Cleobury. The production opens on September 7.
Later this year, he will direct Ambroise Thomas’s lesser-known work La Cour de Célimène, which will open the sixtieth Wexford Festival.

Stephen Barlow directs Opera Holland Park’s first ever production of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale this month. The opera opens on June 7 with further performances on June 9, 11, 14, 16, 18, 22 and 24. The production will be conducted by Richard Bonynge.

Stephen Barlow directs Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites in a new production for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Performances take place between the 3rd and 9th March in the Guildhall School’s theatre.

Stephen Barlow revives Nicolas Joël’s original production of Romeo and Juliette at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. The cast includes Piotr Beczala and Nino Machaidze/María Alejandres. Performances will take place on selected nights between 26 October and 11 November.
