Great Artists Series, Mariinsky Concert Hall

In 2007, Intermusica was invited by Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre, St Petersburg, to produce a concert series for the spectacular new 1200 seat Mariinsky Concert Hall (click here for more details), which is already being praised as one of the finest acoustics in the world.

Over the next year, the Great Artists Series was devised, with an opening 2008/9 season including artists such as Viktoria Mullova, Richard Goode, the Hagen Quartet, Midori and Leonidas Kavakos. The season surpassed all expectations, with sold-out concerts and enthusiastic responses from artists, audiences and critics alike.

2009/10 opened with a special, one-off recital by pianist Boris Berezovsky, which was followed by debuts in St Petersburg for the Tokyo Quartet and for Piotr Anderszewski. Further concerts in the season include performances by Vadim Repin, Jonathan Biss and a debut in Russia for the Takacs Quartet, performing an all-Beethoven programme. Details of the 2010/11 season will be announced later this year.
