International Tchaikovsky Competition
From 2011, Intermusica is working in partnership with the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and St Petersburg.
For the first time, following the XIV Competition held in July 2011, Intermusica will represent worldwide the gold medal winners (excluding Russia, where Laureates will be managed by the Moscow Philharmonic Society, and North and South America, where they will be managed by Opus 3 Artists).
Under the new leadership of Valery Gergiev (pictured below), the 2011 competition was the highest-profile in its history. Gergiev stated that he intended "the XIV Competition to serve as a milestone in the illustrious history of this great event".
He assembled a jury including such distinguished names as Yefim Bronfman, Lynn Harrell, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maxim Vengerov, Leonidas Kavakos and Yuri Bashmet, while Placido Domingo and Van Cliburn were honorary chairs. Medals were awarded in each of the Competition’s five categories: piano, violin, cello, male voice and female voice

“From the beginning, the Tchaikovsky Competition inspired me with awe, when, as a child, names soon to become legendary - Van Cliburn, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Grigory Sokolov - were blossoming on the Moscow stage.
Today we are inviting my colleagues, the world’s most celebrated performing artists, to join together in helping us discover a new generation of brilliant young talents."
Valery Gergiev
