Angela Brower stars as Adalgisa in Norma at Bayerische Staatsoper

Angela Brower returns to Bayerische Staatsoper on 30 June 2019 to star as Adalgisa in Bellini Norma. Jürgen Rose’s production is conducted by Andrea Battistoni and Brower is joined by fellow cast members Carmen Giannattasio, Riccardo Massi and Intermusica's Freddie De Tommaso.


Brower’s recent highlights include a role and house debut as Idamante Idomeneo at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Octavian Der Rosenkavalier at Opera de Colombia and several appearances in Munich including Dorabella Cosi fan tutte, Adalgisa Norma and Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte. She also made her debut at Oper Stuttgart as Nicklausse Les contes d’Hoffmann.


Next season Brower makes several debuts including house debuts at Dutch National Opera as Dorabella Cosi fan tutte and at the Metropolitan Opera as Octavian Der Rosenkavalier as well as a role debut as Cendrillon in Klagenfurt. She also appears in the Da Ponte Trilogy as Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Zerlina Don Giovanni and Dorabella Cosi fan tutte with Marc Minkowski at Opéra National Bordeaux.


Performances of Norma continue until 3 July.

Five Intermusica artists feature in The Metropolitan Opera’s 2019/20 season, announced last week.


Lise Davidsen will make her Metropolitan Opera debut as Lisa in Tchaikovsky The Queen of Spades from 29 November to 21 December 2019. Also making their house debuts are Joélle Harvey in the role of Pamina in Mozart The Magic Flute on selected dates from 15 December, and Angela Brower singing the role of Octavian in Strauss Der Rosenkavalier on 28 December.


Mark Wigglesworth returns to the Met to conduct Gluck Orfeo ed Euridice from 20 October. Dolora Zajick, a regular at the Met, sings Kabanicha in Janacek Káťa Kabanová opening 2 May 2020.

Angela Brower makes her company and role debut at Lyric Opera of Chicago on 18 October as Idamante in Idomeneo. Performances of Jean-Pierre Ponnelle’s production are conducted by Sir Andrew Davis and Brower is joined by fellow cast members Matthew Polenzani, Erin Wall and Janai Brugger.


Last season Brower made a series of triumphant house debuts with Opéra de Paris as Annio La Clemenza di Tito; with Deutsche Oper Berlin as Prince Orlovsky in a new production of Die Fledermaus; and as Komponist Ariadne auf Naxos at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in a new production by Katie Mitchell. Other appearances included Dorabella and Octavian at the Bayerische Staatsoper; a triumphant concert debut singing Berio’s Folk Songs in Prague; as well as solo recitals at Stanford University, Arizona State University and the Cuvilliés-Theater in Munich.

Angela Brower signs with Intermusica for general management

Intermusica is delighted to announce the signing for general management of Angela Brower, one of the most admired and in-demand lyric mezzo-sopranos today.


Originally from Arizona, Brower first shot to fame when she starred as Niklausse/Muse alongside Rolando Villazón in Richard Jones’ production of Les contes d’Hoffmann at the Bayerische Staatsoper, where she was a member of the ensemble until 2016. Since then, she has appeared at leading opera houses including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Salzburg Festival, Opera de Paris, Wiener Staatsoper, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Deutsche Oper Berlin and San Francisco Opera.


During the 2018/19 season Brower makes a company and role debut with Lyric Opera of Chicago as Idamante Idomeneo under the baton of Sir Andrew Davis. Brower's discography includes the hugely acclaimed Deutsche Grammophon recordings of Mozart Così fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro, both conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
