David Junghoon Kim stars in world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida at the Royal Opera House
David Junghoon Kim joins Sir Mark Elder and Opera Rara for the world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida at the Royal Opera House on 18 July 2018.
Junghoon Kim stars as Leone de Casaldi in concert performances of the rediscovered work alongside Joyce El-Khoury and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House under the baton of Sir Mark Elder. A recent graduate from the Jette Parker Young Artists programme, Junghoon Kim returned to the Royal Opera House as a guest artist earlier this season as Macduff Macbeth and also made his debuts as Alfredo La Traviata at Oper Köln and Roméo Roméo et Juliette at Grange Park Opera.
Upcoming highlights include his company debuts at Opernhaus Zürich as Macduff Macbeth and Oper Stuttgart as Rodolfo La bohème as well as performances at Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile.
L’Ange de Nisida is performed on 18 and 21 July and will be recorded for release by Opera Rara.
David Junghoon Kim makes role and house debut at Grange Park Opera as Roméo
David Junghoon Kim makes his role debut as Roméo on 23 June 2018, starring in a new production of Roméo et Juliette at Grange Park Opera. The production is directed by Patrick Mason and also marks Kim's debut at the house. Musical accompaniment comes from the orchestra of English National Opera, conducted by Stephen Barlow.
Since his graduation from the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artists Programme last summer, Kim has made his German debut as Alfredo in La traviata and returned to the Royal Opera House to sing Macduff in Macbeth. Upcoming highlights include Leone de Casaldi in the world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida at the Royal Opera House with Sir Mark Elder, Macduff Macbeth at Opernhaus Zürich and appearances at Oper Stuttgart and Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile.

David Junghoon Kim sings Macduff at the Royal Opera House
David Junghoon Kim returns to the Royal Opera House on 2 April 2018 to sing Macduff Macbeth. The production is directed by Phyllida Lloyd and conducted by Antonio Pappano. Kim joins fellow cast members Željko Lučić, Anna Pirozzi and Ildebrando D'Arcangelo.
This marks Kim’s first appearance at the Royal Opera House since his graduation from the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme last summer. Since graduating, he has made his German debut as Alfredo La traviata at Oper Köln, and his upcoming highlights include Roméo Roméo et Juliette at Grange Park Opera and Leone de Casaldi in the world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida at the Royal Opera House.
Future operatic highlights include further appearances as Macduff Macbeth and Italian Tenor Der Rosenkavalier.
Kim performs in Macbeth on 2, 7 and 10 April.

David Junghoon Kim makes his debut at Oper Köln on 15 October 2017 singing Alfredo La traviata. The production is directed by Benjamin Schad and conducted by Matthias Foremny.
A 2017 graduate of the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme, this season Kim returns to the Royal Opera House as a guest artist. He makes his debut as Macduff Macbeth and Leone de Casaldi in concert performances of the world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida with Sir Mark Elder. Kim also makes his debut at Grange Park Opera as Roméo Roméo et Juliette.
Performances of La traviata run until 3 December.
Vlada Borovko, David Junghoon Kim & Simon Shibambu star in Jette Parker Young Artists Showcase at Covent Garden
On 16 July 2017 Vlada Borovko, David Junghoon Kim and Simon Shibambu star in the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme showcase on the main stage of Royal Opera House, alongside other programme members.
Fresh from her successful run of Mitridate, re di Ponto when she sang the role of Aspasia, Borovko joins Kim in a performance of the second act duet of Verdi’s I due Foscari. Kim also sings Rossini’s Le Comte Ory whilst Borovko joins as Donna Anna in a showcase of the second act performance of Don Giovanni, which also features Shibambu as Commendatore and Masetto.
Next season, Shibambu embarks upon his second year in the Jette Parker Programme, appearing in eight mainstage productions whilst both Kim and Borovko, who graduate from the programme this year, make their debuts at Oper Köln in a new production of La traviata and also return to Covent Garden for their first performances as guest artists: Borovko as Musetta in Richard Jones’ new production of La bohème and Kim as Macduff Macbeth and Leone de Casaldi in the world premiere of Donizetti’s L’ange de Nisida. He can also be heard as Romeo Roméo et Juliette at Grange Park Opera.
Intermusica signs David Junghoon Kim for worldwide management
Intermusica is delighted to announce the signing of young Korean tenor David Junghoon Kim for worldwide management.
Currently a Jette Parker Young Artist, David Junghoon Kim is the winner of the much-coveted Francisco Viñas, Voci Vediane and Toulouse singing competitions. A graduate of the Seoul National University, he made his professional debut as Rodolfo La bohème and subsequently joined the Royal Opera House in September 2015. He made his Royal Opera House stage debut as Venditore Il tabarro and was further heard as Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor (also covering Edgardo), Ruiz Il trovatore and Kudrjas Kat’a Kabanova (JPYAP summer performance).
In 2016/17, his appearances at the Royal Opera House include Flavio Norma, Nathanael Les contes d’Hoffmann, Lamplighter Manon Lescaut, Ruiz Il trovatore, Gastone La traviata, Augustin Moser Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Count Lerma and Herald Don Carlo and Pong Turandot.
Junghoon Kim recently sang the role of Italian Tenor in the Royal Opera House production of Der Rosenkavalier, having stepped in at the last minute as a cover for an ailing colleague. Kim sang alongside an all-star cast, including Renée Fleming, Alice Coote, Sophie Bevan and Matthew Rose.
