Praised for his “remarkably clear and impressive vocal production” (Opera News), Polish Baritone Hubert Zapiór joined the prestigious ensemble of the Staatsoper Hannover in the 2019/20 season following his graduation from the Juilliard School. In the 2021/22 season in Hannover he will perform as Guglielmo Così fan tutte, Conte Almaviva Le nozze di Figaro, Figaro Il Barbiere de Siviglia, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream and in the world premiere of Der Mordfall Halit Yozgat. Zapiór will also join Opera Wroclaw as Zurga Les pêcheurs de perles, the title role in Don Giovanni and Ottokar der Freischutz.
In previous seasons at Staatsoper Hannover, Zapiór made his role debut as Figaro Il Barbiere di Siviglia, alongside his return to Papageno The Magic Flute and Marullo Rigoletto. Recent highlights include Zapiór making his house and role debut as d’Obigny in Günter Krämer’s production of La Traviata with the Bayerische Staatsoper, Papageno in Barrie Kosky’s acclaimed production of Die Zauberflöte and Marullo Rigoletto with the Polish National Opera, Candide with Opera Krakowska, the title role of Don Giovanni at Juilliard and the War Requiem with the Albany Symphony.
Zapiór is a recipient of various international competition awards: First Prize Winner at The Giulio Gari Foundation International Vocal Competition, First Prize Winner at the Gerda Lissner Foundation International Voice Competition 2018, Winner of The Career Bridges 2018, Second Prize of the Loren Zachary 47th Annual National Vocal Competition for Young Opera Singers, Second Prize and Special Prize for the best young talent at the International Giulio Perotti Vocal Competition, Second Prize at the Halina HalskaFijałkowska International Vocal Competition, Third Prize and Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, Special Award at the Leyla Gencer Voice Competition and Special Distinction and prize for the youngest finalist at the Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition.
Since his operatic debut in the title role of Rousseau Der Dorfwahrsager at the Rheinsberger Schlosstheater in 2013, he has appeared in the Polish premieres of Handel Agrippina as Lesbo and Sciarrino Luci mie traditrici as Servo. He performed the title role in Mozart Don Giovanni, sang Conte in Le nozze di Figaro and Prosdocimo in Il Turco in Italia at the Warsaw Chamber Opera and whilst at Juilliard, his roles there included Neptune in Rameu Hippolyte et Aricie, Herr Fluth in Nicolai Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor.
He previously graduated from Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw, and he was also a participant of The Opera Academy's Young Talents Development program at Polish National Opera.
