Hongni Wu and Jacquelyn Stucker star in Noa Naamat’s production of Henze Phaedra at the Royal Opera House's Linbury Theatre on 15 May 2019. The production is conducted by Edmund Whitehead and Wu peforms the title role while Stucker sings Aphrodite.


Phaedra was Hans Werner Henze's final opera and was premiered in 2007. Re-imagining of the myth of Phaedra and Hippolytus (Hippolyt), the opera has been described as an "astonishing achievement" brimming with "otherworldly beauty" and a "rich, beguiling and significant work".


Wu is currently on the Jette Parker Programme at the Royal Opera House, where her highlights this season have included Flora La traviata and her role debut as Sibel Faust. She also sings Mercédès in Barrie Kosky's acclaimed production of Carmen at the Linbury Theatre. Upcoming highlights at the Royal Opera House include Flora in Richard Eyre’s production of La traviata, Karolka Jenůfa and Tebaldo Don Carlo.


As a Jette Parker Young Artist at the Royal Opera House, this season Stucker stars as Prilepa in The Queen of Spades under the baton of Sir Antonio Pappano and Frasquita in Barrie Kosky’s production of Carmen. Upcoming highlights for Stucker include her Glyndebourne debut as Armida in Robert Carsen’s production of Rinaldo and her principal artist debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. She also makes debuts in leading roles with Boston Lyric Opera and Festival d'Aix-en-Provence.

Jaquelyn Stucker returns to the Royal Opera House from 27 March 2019 to star as Alessandro in Handel’s Berenice at the Linbury Theatre. Adele Thomas' new production is conduced by Laurence Cummings and runs until 7 April.

Jacquelyn Stucker signs with Intermusica

Intermusica is thrilled to announce the signing of exciting American soprano Jacquelyn Stucker, a true “singing actress” and a hugely versatile performer of new and interesting repertoire, ranging from early music and concert and opera works to edgy contemporary repertoire.


Stucker is currently in her final year as a Jette Parker Young Artist at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. She will then join the ensemble of Deutsche Oper Berlin, where her roles will include Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Gretel Hänsel und Gretel and Tytania A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Further highlights next season include her role and house debut as Cleopatra Giulio Cesare with Boston Lyric Opera and Armida Rinaldo with Glyndebourne on Tour.


At the Royal Opera House this season her upcoming engagements include Aphrodite in Henze’s Phaedra and Alessandro in Handel’s Berenice.


Winner of the Second Prize at the inaugural Glyndebourne Cup in 2018, she is also the recipient of the 2016 Anna Case MacKay Career Advancement Grant from the Santa Fe Opera, a semi-finalist in the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and a National Semi-Finalist in the 2017 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
